Revised Access – October 2006 Gorky Park, the Microdome and the Flatiron areas are now accessible from the large “social” trail just south of the downstream overlook which leads directly to the top of Gorky Park. To access Microdome and Flatiron, you must drop down to the waterline to follow the river’s edge along the ledges. Access routes across the rocky “prairie” area are now closed. Access to Sandbox is via the main trail (the shortest trail) to Sandbox corner, and following the trail from the corner downhill to the bottom. No real change here. However, DO NOT LEAVE THE AREA BY GOING DOWNSTREAM. Access from the downstream trail is now closed due to rare plant issues. Walk out the same way you came in. It’s up to the NPS to do something with the crowds of tourists along this route. Access to the Dihedrals sites is from the plaque area. This includes access to the Cigar Box area (sorry, we’ll just have to walk a little further). Access to the Dihedrals downclimb is from the River Trail just south of the plaque. The trail cuts to the left off the river trail downstream from the plaque about 100', through the break in the fencing, and follows past the two waterbreaks to join the original downclimb. NPS has put up temporary signs that point climbers to the access trails until permanent ones can be made.
